it.”
Pull out. Slam. “Tell me this right here is mine.” It was an order.
    Pull out. Slam.
“It’s yours, Max. Only yours,” I managed to pant out between moans.
“God damn right it is,” he growled, then pulled one of my legs up and brought it onto his shoulder, slamming back into me. Without pausing, he did it again, and again, continuing his brutal assault. And I loved every minute of it. I loved feeling like he owned me—because I wanted him to. And just maybe it meant that he wanted that a little, too.
He pushed into me over and over until he finally dropped my leg and sat up, still leaning on me, jerking himself off until he came all over my exposed breasts—marking me in a way. It was so completely ridiculous that I wanted to sigh contentedly after he did it. It was base and not romantic in any way, but it didn’t fail to fill me with happiness.
Max sat back onto his heels and gazed down at me, the weight of many emotions in his eyes, most of which I couldn’t identify.
Finally, I broke the silence. “Come on, you need to get in the shower.”
“Nurses orders?” He smirked and arched a brow.
“Exactly,” I laughed, still a little breathless.
He reached a hand out to help me up, and we made our way into the bathroom. In the interest of time, we decided to share the shower. It was nice, though—Max decided to play doctor and gave me a thorough head to toe physical.

Chloe
I was heading downstairs after doing my hair and make-up when my cell phone rang from the kitchen counter. I ran to grab it before it went to voicemail, pushing my nerves aside when I saw Mr. Cullen’s name on the screen. I was praying that he hadn’t heard about Max staying at my place.
“Hello,” I answered, my voice a little shaky.
“Chloe, we need to talk.” He didn’t sound like he was in a good mood, but what else was new.
“What can I help you with?” I asked, managing to muster up a bright and cheery voice.
He sighed. “I just got word from the labor board…It seems the cause of the accident at Richfield Developments has been determined.”
I exhaled a sigh of relief that the call wasn’t about Max. Maybe now that the labor board had concluded its look into the Richfield site, we could get on with business as usual. “Well, that must be good news for you.”
“Not particularly,” he grumbled. “Faulty structural steel was used on the Richfield site, which accounts for the partial collapse of the building.”
I sucked in a breath. What did that mean for Max’s company? Hell, what did that mean for me? “That’s terrible,” I said with genuine concern.
“What’s worse is that the Richfields and I shared the same supplier, and since we’re building in the same time frame, the safety board is questioning the integrity of my building. Can you believe that?” He made a noise of disgust.
“What does that mean?” I asked, dreading the answer.
“It means they’ve shut down my site—indefinitely!”
I sunk down into a kitchen chair as the news hit me, and my dream of buying into the brokerage came crashing down. A site shutdown meant no sales. No sales meant no bonus. And no bonus meant no buying into the brokerage.
“That’s awful,” I managed to squeak out.
“It’s worse than awful. This is a worst case scenario.” More anger seeped into his voice. It seemed the longer we continued this conversation, the harder it was for him to hold it in. “Until they’re able to confirm that we don’t have the same issue, we’re all out of business. I have no doubt those Richfield scumbags would cut corners and use inferior materials, but for their fuck-ups to mess up my own business is a new low—even for Winston Richfield,” he said with a bitter edge to his voice.
I was a little taken aback at Mr. Cullen’s cursing. I’d never heard him do it before. I could only imagine how irate he was, especially at the fact that this blow had hit us in a roundabout way, as a result of the
