knowing she hadn’t come undone
with this jerk as she had with him their one night together.
Brooke frowned irritably at him. “You
don’t have to be so smug about it. As a matter of fact, I’ve laid some of the
blame for what happened that night on you. If the sex with you hadn’t been so
over the top, my head wouldn’t have been so screwed up with trying to reach
those highs again.”
Alec would have laughed at the look of
self-disgust on her face if he wasn’t so put out by the idea that their one
night together had led to her getting hurt. “Brooke, I’m…”
Brooke laid a hand over his mouth, halting
his apology. “No,” she admitted lowly, “don’t say you’re sorry. I was stupid
for going there, especially with a man I barely knew. The fault for what
happened that night is mine and his.”
“What exactly did happen?” He continued to
caress her breasts, loving the feel of their soft weight in his hands and the
press of her hard, pointed nipples against his palm. His cock was still
engorged and aching, making him extremely uncomfortable physically, but
mentally his mind was on Brooke’s pain and already engaged in ways to help her
overcome the consequences of her ordeal.
The feel of Alec’s hands on her, his
continuing soft caresses and light strokes both soothing and arousing, lulled
her into relaxing in his arms, making it easier to talk to him. “Too late I
realized Richard had spiked my drink with something. Before I knew it, he had
me pinned over a bench and was taking me from behind while some guy I didn’t
know kept me quiet by shoving his cock in my mouth. My body was lethargic from
the drug, my mind fuzzy. I barely remember the details, or the ride home.”
Alec was grateful for the Reader’s Digest
version because even that abbreviated version had him tense with rage on her
behalf. Shoving aside the picture she had put in his head, he said, “Well,
sugar, I’d say you’ve come to the right place and the right man this time.”

    Chapter Seven

Brooke sighed in disgust as she glanced at
the clock again. Only ten minutes had passed since the last time she had checked
the time and in that ten minutes she had only read one page of Gabe’s edited
manuscript. It wasn’t like her to be nervous before a date and definitely
wasn’t like her to be anxious about any sexual activity that might take place
during that date. Alec had left yesterday after agreeing to help her overcome
the consequences of her rape only after she had promised to do whatever he
said, no matter where they were or what he asked of her.   Her dreams last night were filled with
scenarios of different ways she and Alec could have sex, ways that had her
waking up in damp arousal and forcing her to get herself off just to clear her
head.
Unfortunately, eight hours later she was
still on pins and needles wondering what he had planned and whether she would
enjoy it or be left frustrated and empty again. After instructing her to meet
him at the dock at three o’clock this afternoon for an afternoon sail wearing
only a sundress and panties he had simply left her to wonder what he had
planned. The afternoon was warm with only a slight breeze and she was looking
forward to the boat ride and to spending more time with Alec. Her excitement
over spending more time with him, of getting naked with him again was marred by
the worry of any sexual encounter they had ending the way it always did, her
feeling so cold and empty inside.
Shutting down her laptop, she went to
slather on sunscreen and get dressed. Arriving early at the dock and looking
pathetically eager for their outing was better than sitting here stewing about
what might and might not happen.
Brooke spotted Alec on board a sleek
bright yellow and white boat when she pulled the golf cart into a small empty
spot by the dock. Waving, she tried to keep her excitement and
