leather of Seth’s jacket. It was such a
weirdly comforting scent, and despite the thing being battered, Dom couldn’t
fault it. All he found in the pockets though was a Zippo, a half-empty
cigarette box, and some money. He almost put it down, but found an inside
breast pocket. He didn’t expect to find anything there with the disappointing
contents of the other pockets in mind, but he fished out a simple signet. He
turned it in his fingers, its weight and shape weirdly recognizable. He smelled
it, but all he got was the metallic aroma.
A man could hug a jacket
for only so long, so he put the ring back where it belonged and rummaged
through the contents of his own coat pockets. Nothing he didn’t know about, and
yet there was a throbbing in his brain telling him not to leave it yet. He
pulled the coat off the hanger and spread it out on the bed. He sat next to it
and started searching it for hidden pockets much like the one he’d found in Seth’s
jacket. And then there it was, something stiff underneath the lining of the
coat. His breath caught, and in the next minute he was back with scissors,
carefully separating the lining from the woolen fabric.
    It was painful to slice
through the only garment he had that was actually worth keeping, but curiosity
was much stronger than dedication to style. He delved his hand in, and at first
he didn’t know what he grabbed, but when he pulled it out, he was dumbstruck.
It was a laminated print-out from a photo booth. He looked into his own face,
the one he knew from the passport, and swallowed at the sight of a perfect ass
in tight white Calvin Kleins next to it. On one of the photos Seth was standing
with the briefs pulled beneath his buttocks, on another the underpants were on,
and Dom had a gloved hand over that gorgeous ass, and then there was the one
where Seth sat in Dom’s lap with his legs spread and reached back with his arms
to wrap them around Dom’s neck as they kissed.
So they had been together. That was for certain. There was a tenderness in the pictures, the
touch possessive and yet gentle. There was no way this had been planted in his
coat on purpose. They could have been together all this time, without the
frustration. He’d actually know where he stood, but still, the anger he felt an
hour ago simmered down, leaving only the dull aching in his chest. He still
didn’t know much, but this was something he could hold on to.
    He rose and slowly
walked over to the cab, holding onto the furniture not to fall.
    Seth must have heard
him, but he didn’t look back. Only his hands tightened on the steering wheel as
Domenico approached. It was already dark outside, and Dom had no idea where
they could be going. The headlights made the empty road in front of them look
eerie, which was oddly fitting with the chaos inside Dom’s head.
    He slid into the
passenger’s seat, still shocked by what happened today. “I found something.”
    “A dead rat?” Seth
muttered nasally, his knuckles getting white on the steering wheel.
    Domenico looked at the
discoloration, unsure whether he should surprise him now, but he chose to
speak. “Photos of us.”
    “We don’t have photos.
You didn’t allow them for security reasons,” Seth muttered in a blank voice.
    Dom noticed Seth’s
cheekbone got a distinct purplish color. Well, the bastard earned it.
    “They were hidden under
the lining of my coat. And they’re NC-17.”
    That finally had Seth’s
face turn to him for a second. “What?”
    “Watch the road if you
need to drive on,” Domenico said with a low laugh, but even to his ears it
sounded bitter.
    “What photos?” Seth
turned back, but his cheeks were flushing with a different kind of color. “Did
you take some porny pics when I was sleeping or something?”
    Dom shook his head,
waiting. Didn’t Seth want to see what he’d found? “You look pretty sober in
them.”
    “What are you so happy
about?” Seth groaned with that frown never leaving his
